the involved challenge
The Involved Workplace Challenge encourages organizations to take an active role in promoting volunteer service inside and outside the workplace. This challenge outlines the following best practices for organizations looking to improve their level of community engagement:
involved logo best practices
  • Creating a culture of service in the workplace
  • Having a volunteer program or policy for employees
  • Designating staff to coordinate volunteer projects
  • Implementing a volunteer tracking system
  • Focusing employee volunteer efforts
  • Posting and promoting community and volunteer projects
  • Awarding outstanding volunteers
Who should complete the Involved scorecard?

We recommend a primary point of contact/administrator register your organization as a new participant, and then the following employee positions can be added as additional users to help fill out each scorecard. These additional users may be identified during the registration process.

If you are smaller businesses with shared job responsibilities, one individual may complete all scorecards. For larger businesses, we recommend that a staff member in Human Resources, Community Relations, or similar department be responsible for completing the Involved Scorecard.

Check out the Involved Workplace Toolkit to read more on why it is important to engage your employees in the community and tools on how to increase your score on this specific challenge.

Organizations will join the challenge by registering and filling out the Involved Workplace scorecard. Organizations that score at least 15 points on the scorecard will be designated a  Local Community Champion.

scoring details

The Involved Challenge scorecard contains questions targeting best practices for being a more involved organization. Once registered, participating organizations may access and update their scorecards at any time, with the goal of increasing their scores throughout the challenge year. Scores will be reviewed periodically, and participants will receive awards throughout the year as they reach higher levels of recognition.

Although participants are encouraged to achieve as many points as possible, they are not expected to achieve all points. As noted below, an organization that receives 15 points has taken many important steps toward being an environmentally conscious workplace and is deserving of recognition. The Involved Workplace Challenge has four award levels for Local Community Champions, which are tied to the following point totals:
